Recap: IBC 2013

Singapore, Colombia, India—locations all over the world were represented this year at Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business’ ninth annual Intercollegiate Business Convention, the keystone event of Women in Business Weekend. Over 1,200 impressive young women registered to participate in 26 breakout sessions featuring over 100 professionals across industries. The three inspiring keynotes—President of Cinnabon Kat Cole, President and CEO of The Nike Foundation Maria Eitel, and Chairman and COO of Atlantic Records Julie Greenwald—spoke about their professional and personal experiences and encouraged IBC’s attendees to exceed others’ expectations and work diligently. New initiatives this year included IBC Talks (TED-talk style presentations by Devra Jacobs of Innerscope, Betsy Myers of Bently University’s Center for Women & Business, and Farzana Haque of Tata Consultancy), an IBC mobile application, the IBC Loyalty Program, a year-long Campus Ambassador Leadership Program, and the WIB Weekend International Mentorship Program. Sheryl Sandberg Speaks at Harvard

On April 4th, Sheryl Sandberg visited Harvard as part of her Lean In book tour. She gave a speech which was widely attended by the Harvard community, including undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, and Drew Faust. Sandberg spoke about taking initiative and changing the business world to one in which there is gender equality and took questions from the audience – including some of the men! Recap: 8th Annual Intercollegiate Business Convention

Thank you very much to those who attended the 8th Annual Intercollegiate Business Convention on September 29th. The event featured 7 Career Tracks and 100+ outstanding speakers, including Donna Karan and Sarah Robb O’Hagan as keynote speakers. A special thanks to our Alumni who volunteered to be panelists, moderators, and/or conduct resume reviews/mock interviews for your much valued time and effort. We would also like to thank those of you who joined us for lunch and who came out for drinks at Towne following the Convention! We hope you enjoyed yourself as much as we did! Meet our new SF City Reps!

We are excited to announce four new City Reps for San Francisco: Lindsey Barnes (’07): Lindsey has worked at P&G in brand management, BCG SF in management consulting, graduated from Stanford GSB with a degree in general management. Nicole Villasin (’06): Nicole has been with Bloomberg for the past 5 years in various capacities, and is currently a strategic account manager looking after the largest buyside accounts on the West Coast. Winnie Yeung (’08): Winnie is a Consultant at Dalberg Global Development Advisors, where she focuses on applying private sector approaches to assist public and private sector organizations working to advance economic development in developing countries. Recap: March Personal Branding Workshop

On March 22, almost 40 undergraduates and alumni gathered at Harvard for Get Savvy: Power Up Your Personal Brand, a speaker-led workshop and networking reception. The event was co-hosted by HUWIB and HUWIB Alumni, in collaboration with HBS’ WSA.  Speaker Sandy Lish, Principal and Founder of The Castle Group, helped attendees understand simple ways to make the most of their strengths to create business opportunities, sharing: Practical techniques for evaluating and enhancing your personal brand Ways to use third-party creditability to promote your brand Steps to conduct successful networking at events and build a strong personal network Attendees put their newly-acquired personal branding and networking knowledge to the test during an informal reception to round out the evening. Thanks to all who attended, and a special thank you to Sandy Lish!

Recap: 2012 HBS Dynamic Women in Business Conference

On Saturday, February 25th, over 1,100 women came together for this year’s (sold out!) Dynamic Women in Business Conference, hosted by Harvard Business School’s Women’s Student Association (WSA). Students, alumni, faculty, distinguished business leaders, and community members gathered to partake in this powerful forum for women to learn from, share with and inspire one another, as well as to explore the opportunities and challenges that women encounter in today’s business world.
