A network for HUWIB members to continue their involvement after graduation
HUWIB members continue their involvement after graduation, when they join the HUWIB Alumni Network. With over 500 members currently, the HUWIB alumni network will continue to grow stronger as the organization grows over time. There are many opportunities for alumni to stay involved, including joining the HUWIB Alumni Board or becoming an HUWIB City Networking Rep. HUWIB alumni can benefit from networking events in core cities and virtual networking through our exclusive alumni social networking site.
What does your job entail? I’m spending the year on a McKinsey-sponsored secondment with LeanIn.Org, the non-profit organization founded by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg to empower all women to achieve their ambitions. LeanIn.Org offers inspiration and support through an online community, free expert lectures and Lean In Circles, small peer groups who meet regularly to share and learn together. I run our Education and Circles programs. I collaborate with leading experts from Marcus Buckingham to Amy Cuddy to develop free expert lectures and other education content for the Lean In community, and I work with women and men around the world to help them organize and run Lean In Circles. We have 12,000 registered Circles in more than 50 countries, so I spend time collecting and communicating best practices, thinking about how we make Circles sustainable, and working to starts Circles for new audiences. For example, this fall I launched … Continued
Singapore, Colombia, India—locations all over the world were represented this year at Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business’ ninth annual Intercollegiate Business Convention, the keystone event of Women in Business Weekend. Over 1,200 impressive young women registered to participate in 26 breakout sessions featuring over 100 professionals across industries. The three inspiring keynotes—President of Cinnabon Kat Cole, President and CEO of The Nike Foundation Maria Eitel, and Chairman and COO of Atlantic Records Julie Greenwald—spoke about their professional and personal experiences and encouraged IBC’s attendees to exceed others’ expectations and work diligently. New initiatives this year included IBC Talks (TED-talk style presentations by Devra Jacobs of Innerscope, Betsy Myers of Bently University’s Center for Women & Business, and Farzana Haque of Tata Consultancy), an IBC mobile application, the IBC Loyalty Program, a year-long Campus Ambassador Leadership Program, and the WIB Weekend International Mentorship Program. For the second year, our alumni organization has partnered with HUWIB to raise money to provide an HUWIB undergraduate seeking a career in a traditionally unpaid field (and with demonstrated financial need) with a grant to help her partake in this internship. Many Harvard organizations provide grants such as these but generally they are not student-run organizations. Those of us who benefited from a summer grant while at Harvard know these grants can be the difference between choosing the internship you are most interested in/passionate about and choosing the one that is economically feasible. This program helps eliminate this choice for the recipient. It would be a huge achievement for us to harness our alumni power and give back to HUWIB and Juliet – we hope we can count on you to raise the $1,500 that we have pledged by August! Whether it’s $10 or $100, every donation helps and … Continued
What does your job entail? I work at New York Needs You, a nonprofit that supports first generation college students with career mentorship. Our flagship program is a two-year, highly selective Fellows Program where first generation college students are partnered with professional mentors for career development and college completion support. However, my role is to design and implement new initiatives open to all low-income college students, which have included career exploration series at community colleges and an online initiative to help students find internships. What is your favorite thing about what you do? I genuinely love coming in to work everyday, but my favorite thing would have to be meeting other “edupreneurs” looking to create meaningful change in the education space. I enjoy sharing best practices and brainstorming with other people equally as excited about changing the world. What does a typical day look like? My days are split between … Continued

What does your job entail? Feature development is the group within the studio responsible for buying material and guiding projects towards production. We split our time between the buying and the development process: we sift through potential material, such as scripts, books for adaptation or IP that can be optioned and developed into a story, while also working with our writers and directors to develop already existing projects. Once we get the green light and a project goes into production, we keep a creative eye on the filmmaking process and are actively involved in overseeing the editing, marketing and publicity. What is your favorite thing about what you do? It’s fun to work in a business where each day presents new and exciting challenges. It’s almost impossible to give someone a thorough rundown of the filmmaking process because each film takes a completely unique path to existence, and sometimes represents … Continued
We’re looking for volunteers to be an HUWIB Alumni City Rep in New York, LA, Washington DC, San Francisco, and Boston. What is a City Rep? City Reps help us access and maintain our HUWIB Alumni Network in major cities. The responsibilities are very manageable: help us spread the word about relevant events, plan 3-4 low-key networking events per year, and provide feedback to the board about what you and other HUWIB Alumni would like to see from the Board! It’s a great way to stay involved with the HUWIB organization without being a taxing commitment on your busy life. Okay I’m interested – now what? Please email email@example.com with an indication of your interest. What if I don’t see my city? If you’d like to start a City Reps program in your city, let us know – we’re always open to expanding the program where there is demand.
