Alumni Spotlight: Ashley Prince, Technology and Career Development Programs Coordinator, New York Needs You

What does your job entail? I work at New York Needs You, a nonprofit that supports first generation college students with career mentorship. Our flagship program is a two-year, highly selective Fellows Program where first generation college students are partnered with professional mentors for career development and college completion support. However, my role is to design and implement new initiatives open to all low-income college students, which have included career exploration series at community colleges and an online initiative to help students find internships. What is your favorite thing about what you do? I genuinely love coming in to work everyday, but my favorite thing would have to be meeting other “edupreneurs” looking to create meaningful change in the education space. Recap: 8th Annual Intercollegiate Business Convention

Thank you very much to those who attended the 8th Annual Intercollegiate Business Convention on September 29th. The event featured 7 Career Tracks and 100+ outstanding speakers, including Donna Karan and Sarah Robb O’Hagan as keynote speakers. A special thanks to our Alumni who volunteered to be panelists, moderators, and/or conduct resume reviews/mock interviews for your much valued time and effort. We would also like to thank those of you who joined us for lunch and who came out for drinks at Towne following the Convention! We hope you enjoyed yourself as much as we did! Alumni Spotlight: Melissa McCreery, Founder & Editor-in-Chief, The Daily Muse

What does your job entail? I’m the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Muse, a females-focused platform providing daily content across career-oriented topics. My job is to set the voice and the vision for everything we publish on The Daily Muse and on our integrated job search platform, Company Muse. This can mean anything from working with an author to craft a compelling hook for a story to rewriting copy on company culture at Pinterest so they’re better able to attract the right type of candidates. As a founder, I also handle a lot of “catch-all” tasks: researching the most cost efficient healthcare plan for our team, for example, or helping one of my co-founders strategize about our most recent fundraiser.
